The Wasteland: The Beginning

The Wasteland: The Beginning

In the Fall/Winter of '21/'22 we set out to push the boundaries of traditional tie dye.

Festival season was ending, the cold was on the way. People all over trade the bright carefree colors of Summer and fall into something more serious for the darker months and we wanted to explore that. Between reverse, ice, and low immersion dye techniques. the tools were already there someone just had to use them.

it was time to get into character and get to work. 'Work'.... sure, you call it that. I call it nostalgia. The mood makers for this work were old favorites from my darker younger days. The glory days of Industrial. Yeah, you know the ones. With their voices in my ears and a helpful collection of dystopian film and TV shows I went full immersion for a bit. My whole world was a brown, barren vastness, where grit and rust and dust covered orphans clad in patched and scarred leather and smothered in warpaint, fought for survival, or against a beast born of the effect of radiation on a dying planet, or maybe she was just out looking for that perfect gift while steering clear of Water & Power.

Needless to say, creating that collection was one of the coolest things I have ever had the pleasure to do, and when it was over, I knew it couldn't end. The Static Fall/Winter collection was born., Each year I plan to build this collection off the precious remnants of the prior year. That's the way you rebuild a world, right? One piece at a time, preserving every treasure that came before. I hope you find a piece of yourself in The Wasteland, just like I did, and that your build it into something great. Enjoy!
